Event Description:
CETL Presents: Engaging the Academic Advising Needs of Generations Y & Z (Adapting the Seven Principles of Good Practice in Undergraduate Education Series)

Overview:
One decade ago, Generation Y, also known as “Millennials,” began the academic transition from high school to college. Born between 1980 and 2000, they had become the largest and most diverse cohort of students in higher education. Because of their unique characteristics, new approaches have been researched and recommended to help them succeed academically. More recently, the first wave of Generation Z is beginning to enter college. This “new” population of students has entered higher education with their own unique characteristics. As a result, additional attention from higher education stakeholders is warranted in order to meet their retention challenges of both generations of students. Academic advising is a proven retention strategy that can be utilized as a way to engage both generations in order to achieve student success, retention, and ultimately, college completion.
